ABOUT:

Across the nation, local foods have emerged as a growing business sector. This summit will bring together agricultural people and industries, public policymakers, private business leaders, not-for-profit institutions, economic developers, and citizens to discuss how we can work together, create jobs, do business, and expand the economy here in Miami County. We are all connected to the food system! Please join us to learn how to make a positive impact in our local community.

Key Themes/Objectives:

- Establishing connections in the local food system (among consumers and producers)

- Learning the potential impact of local food (economic, health, social, environmental)

- Connecting health & the economy through local food (wellness program opportunities)

9:10 a.m. – 9:30 a.m.      Opening Speaker: “Local food and your health” - Bruce Barcelow

9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.    4-speaker panel: food success stories – existing and possible or start-ups

                                             (e.g., chef, school, farmer, partners)

10:30 a.m. – 10:50 a.m.  Break (Resource Fair, Networking)

10:50 a.m. – 11:50 a.m.  Who’s Here / Strategic Doing

11:50 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.    Local Food Lunch (Resource Fair, Networking)    

1:00 p.m. – 1:45 p.m.      Speaker: “The potential impact of local food on a community:  economic, health, and aesthetic benefits.”

1:45 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.      Break (Resource Fair, Networking)            

2:00 p.m. – 2:15 p.m.      “10% Campaign” challenge & Next Steps – “to do” items for attendees

2:15 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.      Breakout session reporting. Closing Remarks.
