    On April 30, Ohio State University Extension will host a program to educate produce growers to reduce microbial contamination on fruit and vegetables.    The program, which covers Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), will be held 9 am – 12 pm at the YWCA Piqua, 418 N Wayne St, Piqua, Oh 45356. Pre-registration is required and is $20 per person. Participants will receive a resource workbook, handouts and a certificate of participation as verification for their customers that the farm operator has received the training.

    We will be offering Quality Assurance to certain clubs on certain dates to try to minimize overcrowding at any one session. If you cannot attend on your club’s scheduled date, then please feel free to attend any of the other regular sessions. However, you must pre-register to attend another session. This pre-registration must be done prior to your club’s scheduled date. Clubs assigned to this session:

    The rising costs of nursing home care may impact farm families harder than others due to farm assets that may limit or prevent a family member from qualifying for Medicaid, according to an agricultural law expert with the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences at The Ohio State University.

  5. Apr. 02, 2015 7:00pm

    Do you have questions about making hay? What seed to plant, how much you need, storage ideas or making sure you are getting quality hay? If so, come out at 7 pm this Thursday, April 2, to the Making Hay From Seeding to Harvesting at the Shelby County Ag Center to get all your hay questions answered!

    All advisors are required to attend a volunteer training every two years - this is a Miami County 4-H Policy. However, a new policy has been issued from the State requiring mandatory annual training beginning in 2015 for all 4-H volunteers. This supersedes the Miami County 4-H Policy. The State training will be at the beginning of each 4-H Advisor Update. Additional updates have been scheduled throughout the county for your convenience. 

  7. Mar. 16, 2015 6:00pm to 8:00pm

    We will be holding a New 4-H Parent Orientation on Monday, March 16, 2015 at 6:00 P.M. in the Extension Meeting Room. We will discuss the 4-H basics, local and state 4-H opportunities, deadlines, completion requirements, project guidelines, completing a 4-H project book, and more.  First year 4-H parents are encouraged to attend, but all 4-H parents are welcome!  Please pre-register by contacting the office.
